I am planning on adding a "How to..." here for efficient reading of forum posts on NWOGEO.org.

Before doing so, I figured I'd ask others how they do it, and learn if the most popular ways are the most efficient or not.

I'm won't reveal how I do it yet, until I get some responces.

1) What do you do when you intend to read all the new posts since you were last here.

2) What you do when you leave the site BEFORE reading any or all of the posts since you were last on, but then return later and want to read everything you missed.


Hint.... Mighty_Mo knows more than one way, so no fair asking him. Which means he should not reveal them here yet either!

When I click on NWOGEO in my favorites, it takes me straight to the main forum listing. I log in and then look at any of the folders that are red. If I don't get to read all of them then I just come back to it the same way.

What's the red folders for? We just look at the dates and the poster names in the right-hand column. :<

"Reds" are fine for scenario #1, but unfortunately not for scenario #2. The date you last visited gets updated with each visit. Therefore the next time you return, the only the posts since your most recent previous visit will be marked red, and NOT the posts from your visit prior to the most recent, that were marked red, regardless if you read them or not.

So the red markings are great, only if you read EVERYTHING marked red at that time.

Other than that major disadvantage, one advantage to using the "red method" is that you can pick and choose the forums you care to read.

There is however another very efficient way to see all the posts since that last time you visited that works great for scenario #, but also fails for scenario #2.

Yeah, come to think about it, I guess I read all the new ones while I'm there and don't need to go back.
