Data Mining?

Post by GoodDog »

I know this topic is somewhere else also, but where?
Anyhow, when I logged on at 2:30am there were 40 others on the site. All in the calander. This is the most I've seen.

I suggest that this is the proliferation of bots for search engines and other computer-ese.

I am a member of the St. Louis Area Geocachers Association too. They require membership for many (maybe most) areas of thier site. Maybe that would cut down on the data mining bots?

The calander is just a trap that sucks in search indexing bots :P

It's harmless.

When I see a large number of "Visitors", I can expect the page loading to slow down to a crawl.

It seems to take forever to browse through the site.

3:55 am There are 81 bots and one dog in the forums. New bot record. I think the bots have found the botets and this is the natural results.

Here we are with 35 data miners. Why didn't they come to the Meet and Eat? It's for all ages, and we weren't carding at the door anyhow!
