I bought a Nuvi 255W on Saturday, updated the firmware and saw that it was eligible for the upgrade.

Downloaded the 2.1Gb file for 2010.20 to my E: drive, but killed the extraction process, since it was extracting it to my C: drive and I was rapidly running out of space (why didn't the install check for free space). While I have the replacement disk on the shelf, I just haven't had the time to do it.

I bought the Nuvi to augment our 60csx. Ontario passed a law last Spring (going into effect this ?Fall), that specifically outlaws handheld GPS use by drivers. When I drive, I normally lay the 60csx on the dashboard and navigate by it.

After I update the maps, I'll look at the Pilotsnipes GSAK macro. We have friends who use it with their Nuvi.

That is interesting. You mean you can't even use your handheld if it has a car mount? Do they specify a minimum screen size too?

Then what if you tethered your 60CSx to a laptop and used laptop display instead of the handheld?

Looks like I'm joining the crowd here. I just ordered a 76Cx. Should be here on Friday. Got tired of getting 40' accuracy under a heavy tree cover!

Got a 2GB card to go with it, and I already have City Navigator for my old GPS, which Garmin says I can transfer to the new one for no cost. It's not the NT version, but Garmin says it will work and load the entire country just fine. I already had a lot of the accessories for my old 76C, so I don't have to buy a bunch of stuff. I didn't get the 76CSx because I don't think I would ever use the compass or the altimeter.

Eventually, my old 76C will be for sale, but I want to make sure the new one works as good as the old one before I sell it.

Very interesting. When we entered Canada last Monday my DeLORME PN-40 was in a RAM windshield mount and the Canadian entry officer said nothing.

Supposedly, the law, passed last Spring was to go in effect, as early as "this Fall".

All being said, we bought a Nuvi and are looking forward to using it to augment our 60csx. Last weekend we found 4 drive by caches, using just the Nuvi.

I like our Nuvi for caching.

Christmas in July Letter...

DEAR SANTA,
I TRULY, REALLY, MOSTLY WANT THE GARMIN GPSMAP 62ST
with all those bells and whistles... 8)

wow - JUST THE SITE ITSELF IS FUN (sounds like 430-5am camping)...
http://sites.garmin.com/gpsmap62/

if it will gently wake me up just PRIOR to when keystone decides to publish, then i would like that app too...

but honestly Santa, for the top-of-the-line hand-held push button unit,
wouldn't ya think that i shouldn't even hafta push those buttons?

i WOULD VERY MUCH LIKE the reads-my-mind version please...i've been a VERY good girl this year, so far...

however, if Xmas is out of the question, could you send one to GeoBash for me to win? thanks and luv bunches to Mrs. SC,
SuchaNana...Life is STILL an Adventure...
