Activities Planning - Geocaching at Event

We would be glad to help hide some caches for the event. Will these be temporary or permanent caches? Also, since this is a Nature Reserve, assuming we would have to abide by Wood Co. Park District rules, that probably means no caches actually inside the park, due to the nature of the area?

Looking forward to our first Xmas party. Let us know what else we can do to help :D

Temporary vs Permanent Caches for Event
Thanks P-burgZoo! In the past we have found that people really do not care for temporary caches too much. So let's see what Good Dog has to say about it. Good Dog can also reply to you better about the cache restrictions.

I seem to remember that there is already a cache at that site.(GCHKHN - a virtual).

I looked at the building when I was looking for the cache. I went inside, and remember a meeting room and thought about the Christmas party, but that was a couple of years ago. It IS a nice place, but I don't remember a lot about the room...

I haven't jumped into the forums for awhile, so I just saw this topic. I would love to place a cache or two in the area to help out. Let me know what else is needed...I live close.

Thx!

I nominate you guys to take the lead on Caching Activities! It looks like you already have some others ready to pitch in too!

From Good Dog's comments, it looks like Permanents may be out. Even if so the P-Burg area has plenty and I'm sure more may be able to be placed closer to the Preserve.

Can you guys call them and ask for sure about the possibility of Permanents? (I'm delegating. :) )

We can definitely help head up Caching Activities.

I'll check on the possibility of permanents. I guess my next question is, thinking ahead, if we can't have permanent caches, is it possible to list temporary caches on GC and then just archive them right after the event? I don't know if this causes an issue or not but we were just talking about this last night - at least then people would feel they get "credit" for caches in the park.

I think there are probably plenty areas close to the park to hide permanent caches anyway. We can always see if Barnacle Bear would like to resurrect Aragog's Revenge for some quality entertainment as one of the activities

Temp caches will be allowed, but must be removed at the end of the event.
In the past, many events would have temp caches. There were fewer caches around then, and in many cases the event would be held at a place that didn't allow permanent caches, and people also wanted something fresh. These caches would not be listed on GC, but would be written up and passed out at the event. To log the caches you would just log multiple "Attended" logs, saying something like" found the Santa cache while attending the Shindig".
This was common at events all over the country. Some people didn't like them and wouldn't log them as finds, but would probably at least hunt them. Others didn't object. They were still caches you had to work for. GC has no official policy. It is up to the event organizers if they want to allow multiple Attended logs. You could even do the same thing on your regular caches, if you, as the owner, want to.

Thanks Mike, I guess there is no need for me to contact the park district then about placing any permanent caches. I didn't even think about people posting multiple "attend" logs for the temporary caches. That will work if that is what cachers want to do. Thanks!

Things change. I would contact the park district and ask about permanent caches.

As far as logging temp caches, that is up to us. I, for one, vote that it's ok.

P-Burg Zoo had a recent success with a Wood County Park approval, give it another shot!

As for multiple logs: give them the OK for the option.

I'll check into the permanent caches.

I vote that logging temp caches is ok too.

I too vote to allow temp caches to be logged on the Event Cache site. (Multi-Logging). Although it will skew everyone's "Event Cache" count. :crying:

Yeah, it does that. Has anyone tried logging a "Find" at an event instead of an "Attended"?
That might work
