Planning: NWO Geocachers Event @ Toledo Library
Hey everybody! CAAGD Here! Hello to those that recently found my caches placed in the Rossford area.
Anyway...I work at the downtown, Main, Toledo-Lucas County Public Library. We have a great meeting space that I can reserve for an event. I was thinking mini-convention. Our McMaster Center has a 240 person capacity with a 25' projection screen. Stereo, surround sound.
I would like to ask some Geocachers to speak and do a PowerPoint or two on their adventures. i would also like to ask Steve Pollack, award winning, outdoor writer, for the Toledo Blade to speak. Get the metroparks involved and maybe get Bass Pro Shops people to come in as well.
Other ideas are welcomed.
What do you guys think?

I have a contact @ Bass Pro and I would be happy to do a GC101 at the library. As far as the metroparks & Steve Pollack go, that would work if someone has a contact to them. We've got people who are great at GSAK in our group that could put on a presentation & this could be the perfect opportunity for GG411 to present his GEO-HTML class that we've been wanting!
We could break it up into sessions:
Geo101
Geo201
Presentation on GSAK
GEO-HTML
Pollack/MetroParks
etc......
Great idea!

I may have a contact with steve, I will have to make a few phone calls, as long as cheech does not scare him with any of his twisted puzzles!

I hear you buddy. I've worked at the Library for over 10 years. I've seen just about every group, Geneology, Poets, Science Clubs, Game Clubs, Tech Fairs, Music enthusiast, all use the Library's facilities.
It's not just about Geocacher's for Geocachers. It's about getting the word out about our hobby, sport and obsession. Geocaching involves the outdoors. Who knows more about the outdoors in NW Ohio than Steve Pollack?
He's just a suggestion and by no means that one that has to be a speaker. Why Bass Pro? They are the premier outdoor outfitter in the area and I know several of the people in the GPS area are, in fact, Geocachers. Advertising also means some SWAG too!
I can get the McMaster Center at a discounted price.
I think with a few people getting together, like a small committee, we could put together a nice little convention.

Re: Planning: NWO Geocachers Event @ Toledo Library
how about using this type of convention to offer FREE classesTheBearclaws wrote: an educational event put on BY geocachers FOR geocachers is a great idea and it's really neat that this facility would be available
such as "HOW NOT TO DO A BOMB CACHE LIKE SHOT SKI"
or " HOW TO USE THE HOLLOWED OUT BOTTOM OF ON EDISON POLE"
and drive the neighbors crazy...i did find that one finally you know...
lol, but seriously, i vote for the library...is this something that the steering committee will talk/argue constructively/vote on? just how does this proceed now?

I've been wanting to put together a presentation on GSAK and it sounds like a great place for the presentation. It will have to wait until after tax season but I would be interested.
