Food & Drink Planning

Post by GizmoGuy411 »

While I would prefer a catered event, I feel to keep it as simple as possible, we should probably opt for pizza/subs or the like, and have people bring a dish and/or desert.

Catering requires much more planning, a reservation system, and money up front, and someone or several someones to be on top of it all.

My 2 cents here.

I agree completely. The catered event at Oak Openings was a great success, but required a lot of work. I don't think we are ready for that now.

In the past, we have tried to use the following Event Fee formula to cover food costs:
The event cost is $xx per adult. One 12 and under child FREE per each paid adult.

I could check to see what kind of discount I can get through Vito's again. We even offer catering, but it may be cheaper to just order a bunch.

We could of have another Chili/Soup Cookoff, with subs. We can also get fruit, cheese and vegetables trays. Only 6 weeks away we need get some plans going.

I think everyone bringing a dish to share is a great idea. If you get 4 or 5 people to volunteer to do 'main' dishes (ie lasagna or some type of meat dish), you could even skip the pizza/subs.

Potluck sounds good to me. I'd be more than happy to bring a lasagna and a salad. Or make chili... Or make a slew of appetizers... Whatever, put me to work.

shannienkitch has accepted the lead for planning the Food & Drink.

I think she will be posting her ideas here soon.

Oh yeah... the chilli cook-off idea also has the benefit of being on the activities.

Alright - I guess since I'm taking the lead on this...

Potluck style - Either you should bring a dish to pass or sign up for the Chili/Soup Cook Off.

I will bring a Mungo Salad, a lasagna, a couple 2-liters and also provide paper plates and plasticware.

We will need someone to bring cups and napkins also don't forget about beverages and desserts.

Please reply with what you are bringing.

So far we only have one person participating in the Cook Off - Yogi57. I will provide ballots for voting.
