The LOST series had me nervous that as I went deep into the woods, my bike would be vunerable even if I pulled it into hiding. Again a weakness in my solo caching.
Not to get off subject here, but they do make things called bike locks!
I am an amazed cacher!

Locked my bike to a rack once and they took the whole rack. Just my luck. Guess I shouldn't have locked my bike up to the front of the TARTA bus. You live, you learn. 8O

Back to the original subject(somewhat!)... With all the snow we now have, maybe snowshoes would be more appropriate! That was one heck of a 2" snow!

I ended up with a pair of columbia's
http://www.shoes.com/p-15079.shtml

Well 2 pair actually... the wife wanted them too.

I will look more at Merrells but I need more time so I can find shoes in person ... (size 14) it gets a bit frustrating find them that big.

Those are what my older hikers were and I LOVED them! I still wear them for snowy treks since my new ones are more mesh than leather. Good choice!

a few years ago I found myself caching in sandals quite often...Tevas specifically. I'm not kidding.

I was wearing sandles while walking down the WCT. I had to stop every 10 feet to get little stones out.

yeah, sticks were my problem Joe, the little ones fit just between my foot and the sandal. I often wore sandals and shorts to work and then went caching on a whim at my dinner break. My legs and feet were scratched up something fierce from May-October every year....those were the days.

I bought a pair of waterproof Ozark Trail hikers at Walmart for $28 and I absolutely love them.
