Whats the farthest you've gone for a FTF?

Post by GrizzFlyer »

Was just updating a couple of my bookmark lists, one of which is for my FTF's. The farthest I've gone is a measly 82 miles, not too impressive. Almost had one in Utah a few years ago on vacation, it was 3 weeks old and no loggers until the day before I hit it. Still a nice climb up into those red rocks.

Its your turn, tell us about some of your long drives (or flights) to get a FTF !!

Aprox 2125 miles as the crow flies. GC1A0KM, "Guarded in St Kitts".

It was published on Mar 20, a week and a half later it had not yet been found. We left for a family cruise and got it on Apr 4, about two weeks after publication.

This was the first cache ever placed in St Kitts and my son and I managed to get an FTF.

We stayed in Munising, MI in the U.P. last year and saw while we were planning our trip an earthcache was published a month previously with no finds. We studied it, printed it all out, and figured even if it was found, we'd attempt GC1PN8A "Grand Sable Dunes, A Perched Dune" in the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore Park. Took almost all day to get the cache area and perform the requirements. But 445 miles from home, and a week later after we got all the info submitted it for, was an FTF.

However, if this is about running straight out from home too, that was the one last week in Branch County GC2AB8V "Grove Rd Curves" which was 57.2 miles from home.

Ben(Bjion74) put out about 6 caches near Maryville 2/2/03 and I was FTF on two of them and STF on the others on 3/15/03. Mr O beat me to the FTFs by a day. He DNF on one them that I found and didn't attempt the other.

Every winter I head south for spring break with the family. Right before we were leaving for our trip in 2008, I noticed a new cache was published on a remote island not too far from where we were staying. The cache is GC19MN5 Quaranteen Trail and it is 1038 miles from home.

So I took a plane to Florida, a car to the house, and a boat to the island in an effort to get the FTF! Unfortunately, when I found the cache, I discovered that someone else had already signed the log! I assumed they were just sandbagging it or waiting until the got home to log it in so I claimed Cheech Honors!

To this day, that other finder has never logged it in! Go Figure!!
I am an amazed cacher!

I have 6 FTFs in West Virginia. Including four in one day. I am sure the locals were a little frustrated with me that day. The farthest one was 298.5 miles from home.

Oh, by the way...The one that was 298.5 miles from home was a blue squiggly (dug out of a foot of snow)that has only been found once since I found it on Jan 1. I am not sure why! It wasn't that hard.

I only have 27 FTF's, but I'm gonna have to make a bookmark list just to see my distances.
