Caches Threatened
So i get an e-mail from this dude "andywashere", saying he tried to find our cache Hang 'Em High Here and got caught by the wrong security people apparently. If you read his log, it seems he didn't help matters either. That cache has been there for 5 years without problem, so I asked him to replace it( since he took it with him when he got banned from the mall) or trash it, so I can fix the cache.
His reply was "What an asshole, how about if I trash all your caches". humm, so if you see any of mine or Besbart's caches missing, we know who to blame. I don't like threats!!!!

Re: Caches Threatened
Well it's a shame that jerks like him choose to run their trap while geocaching.Going to ruin it for all of us.
Re: Caches Threatened
After several e-mail exchanges, I can see that his lack of common sense and uncivil tongue is not confined to just geocaching. He has taken affront at my suggestion he fix the problem he created, and states I'm not like the helpful, friendly cacher he met 2 weeks ago who gave him some hints about geocaching. Obviously not enough hints were given!!! All the same I will probably archive this cache, and be watchful of any DNF's on our others, I would not be surprised if he carried out his threat. I asked him to lighten up and just enjoy the GAME, because I intend to have fun caching, but Idoubt he will.

Re: Caches Threatened
I have had 3 caches turn up missing in the past week, and some jerk threatened to trash my caches in the past week. Putting 2 and 2 together leads me to reason he is responsible.
When Besbart and I started caching in 2003, it was an underground, fairly unknown game where we traveled many miles chasing the few caches nearby. After gaining some experience, we decided to place our home town on the geocaching map. We looked for unusual and fun places for our caches, and understood the extra responsibility it entailed to own one.
Placing a cache is a 2-way proposition though. The owner must maintain a safe and available cache, while the finder is trusted to replace it well and treat it with respect. In over 2100 caches, I never thought once to mess with a cache, or "trash" it, because I respect the fellow cachers who took the time to place it and maintain it.
Whether the jerk actually took my caches ( I think he did), or not, that trust has been broken, and I can no longer trust geocachers to treat my caches with respect. This game has grown so much since I started, it's amazing. But like anything that draws people together, you get bad eggs that try to ruin it for others. The internet is a great place for anonymous rage and spite, when you don't have to meet face-to-face. My caches are public on the internet which makes them, and me, vulnerable. I value my privacy, so this will end.
Besbart and I will continue to cache, cause we really like it, but I'm not placing anymore caches and will archive any caches that I verify as missing. I don't want to wonder if my caches will be the victim of a vendetta, and I don't like to be threatened.
So if you ever run into Andywashere, thank him for me, for being such a stand up guy in the geocaching community.

Re: Caches Threatened
It sounds like he needs a size 13 boot in his a$$ if you ask me. Maybe you need to make them premium member only caches and see if that helps.

Re: Caches Threatened
According to his own logs one of his first caches was in a cemetery at 4am. Not a good start.

Re: Caches Threatened
He is a non-premium member, I would start with making them premium for a while. This too shall pass. Don't let hm change your enjoyment of the hobby.

Perhaps the possible Lima Geo-Event can double as an intervention.

Re: Caches Threatened
I agree with the previous cachers, suggesting you make all your caches "Premium Member Only" for a while.
Re: Caches Threatened
I never really liked the idea of "members only" caches, paying 30$ a year to find premium caches seems like alot of money. Besbart and I have shared a premium acct. since we started. Back then it gave you better maps and more details, but since it is only in my name, Besbart can't log any "members only" caches. It's like you have cachers, and then you have special cachers because they are willing to shell out some money, LOL.
Regardless, we won't go that route, but I will keep an eye on things and maybe change my mind eventually. It's just the idea of using caches as revenge that boggles my mind. Being threatened through a game that's based on trust and friendship just ain't right.
Thanks for all the support and understanding!!!

Re: Caches Threatened
Another cache bites the dust, hard to imagine all these caches being muggled at the same time. At least some of my caches are safe, because they are listed under another name, P-)!!
Plus, he probably doesn't have the brain power to solve some of my puzzle caches. Thanks Andywashere!!!

Re: Caches Threatened
still think a boot in the rump is in order
Re: Caches Threatened
2 more caches bite the dust, for a total of 7 in the past 2 weeks. Ya think Andywashere would be getting bored by now of trashing all my caches. Soon all the easy ones will be gone, then what will he do for fun? Remember, if ya see this dude, thank him for being such a great cacher!!
