Clyde area cemetery caches

Post by GoodDog »

Be careful if you are hunting cemetery caches around Clyde now. The cemetery there, McPhearson Cemetery, was vandalized 3 times in a week, causing $100,000 in damages. (Ch. 11 news 8-31-10) There is now a $2,500 dollar reward and everyone is on high alert in the area.

Thanks GoodDog, I tend to go to Fremont occasionally and Clyde has a nice multi in that cemetery. I have thought if I had time I might go hunt that. It is a 6 stage multi and would probably draw attention.

That is one of the most impressive cemeteries I have ever been to. Go the week after Memorial Day, all of the markers have flags on them. I saw an unknown soldier, one of Andy's Raiders CMH winners, and a confederate flag on one of the headstones.

Why would anyone want to vandalize a cemetery?

I heard this morning there was more damage done. I'm thinking the owner of that cache really might want to disable it so that the cachers who don't see this forum don't go after it & cause themselves a world of hurt.

Received cheech's email, disabled cache, and used Google news to see the extent of the damage.

It's appalling. Old stones, new stones, Congressional Medal of Honor winner's stone, veterans memorial, and whatever else got in the path of the vandals has been damaged. I just can't fathom what kind of person would do this.

I've emailed the owner of the other cache at McPherson cemetery to let her know about the vandalism as well.

came across an old cemetery while on the Barney Oldfield cache runs
that has recently been re-fenced with high fence and NO entry...
perhaps this is their reaction to vandalism...
gang initiations? warped minds not to have respect on hallowed grounds...

I know you are referring to Salsbery Cemetery north of Delta. When I found the cache in Feb of '09, a good portions of the stones were knocked over. When we were hiding the Barneys, they were fixed, but there was a shiny black fence all around. I didn't really put those two together until you mentioned it!
