Is GC accidentally double dipping on memberships?
The story.
Issue #1:
Last year I had an issue with my automatic membership renewal because my credit card had expired. Instead of using another credit card, I used PayPal to renew my membership and chose for it to renew automatically.
A few days ago, I received a message from PayPal, notifying me that that the automatic payment to GC occurred.
A couple days later, I received a message from GC, warning me that my automatic renewal from my credit card failed and my membership would be extended for a couple of weeks until it could be resolved. The credit card number was the expired card from last year.
I am waiting for an answer to this issue from GC.
Issue #2:
On this page http://www.geocaching.com/account/EditMembership.aspx
there are two buttons; "Renew Membership" and "Setup Recurring Membership"
Curiously, PayPal is only an option for "Renew Membership" and does not show as an option for "Recurring Membership".
Yet once you click on "Renew Membership", there IS an option to set up a Recurring Membership. Confused yet?
Therefore if you only click on "Recurring Membership" you might assume that there is no way to use PayPal for recurring memberships.
I have NOT brought this issue to GC's attention yet, as I did not want to add to the confusion of Issue #1 yet.

So based on the email from GC, it looks like I COULD HAVE BEEN charged twice for my membership, if my previous credit card had not expired.
To be continued.....
On the GC page for membership, PayPal is NOT an option for the

Re: Is GC accidentally double dipping on memberships?
We had a similar issue, with recurring monthly payments.
We started paying monthly when we went premium to see how it was.
Shortly after, we signed up for full year memebership.
Found out quite later that they were still charging us monthlies on top of it.
I think it took the Mrs. two or three times to get it to work out.
Took quite a while though.

Last year it happen to me and I contact them and they refund one of the payment. Now I'm waiting to see what happen this year.
Re: Is GC accidentally double dipping on memberships?
Same thing happened to us. I emailed them and heard nothing! Apparently they are still trying to figure things out and that was back in February 2010!

I pay manually in January of each year. The heck with the auto renewal system.

Mine re-upped on it's own last month... as far as I know, it only charged me once... maybe I should check on that...

Manual renew every January also. Takes less than a minute and a few mouse clicks. I do not like to give automatic access to any accounts, just too much of a chance to get things messed up.

Re: Is GC accidentally double dipping on memberships?
Yep, I paypal them manually each year, no subscription.
Of course that is because the Platinum Memberships require reverification every year.

Re: Is GC accidentally double dipping on memberships?
I just renewed ours today. We do it manually after the issue we had before.
