Things I learned from the 2010 Shindig
Otsego is a nice hall, and was just right for this year. Lots of extra chairs, but no extra tables. I brought 3 extra tables for check-in etc.
Temp cache placement was a waste of time.
Ham sells well, cranberries not so much.
We didn't trip any circuit breakers.
It's ok to cry over spilt milk.

I think the weather just wasn't the greatest for going out and caching. I don't think people didn't search the temps because they were only temps.

The weather had a lot to do with it but we had a different crowd this year also. Bearclaws didn't go caching because he was in mourning.

Maybe that ammo can presentations should be twice a year and a sound system is needed.

Re: Things I learned from the 2010 Shindig
I agree the lack of activity on Temp caches was due to the weather. There were only 6 teams that did the permanent Beaver Creek caches. This however allowed for more visiting. Last year at Wildwood I only had 6 teams hit the temps I placed and the weather was wonderful.
The weather also reduced attendance. There were quite a few people that posted they wouldn't be coming and cited the weather.
Posting a file with the area caches seemed to go over quite well and once armygreenX and figured out the secret password we were able to load several people's GPS at the even. (Thanks cachergirl27 for the internet connection).
My Pies sold quite well this year.
All in all I think it was a good time.

I wonder if we have a member that could provide a sound system?TheBearclaws wrote:Maybe that ammo can presentations should be twice a year and a sound system is needed.

With a sound system or not, we could use some background music.
bring a broom and dust pan
We brought rags and needed them.

I have a DJ mixer and a cheap mic - need something boom box wise to hook it to.
All my speakers are currently comitted.

I have an amp that comes with a speaker, and a pretty good mic. Also have a boombox type radio. Next year...

Nice follow up topic. Great venue with awesome view. I learned that making a trip from this area to FT wayne 2 years in a row makes for an early departure and long drive but I have to get the kids back home. The weather was a major factor this year and yes, the ammo can list seems to be getting longer and longer. More caches and more cachers contribute to this.

We use to do a spring and winter. Time to return to that.TheBearclaws wrote:Maybe that ammo can presentations should be twice a year .
Move the event back to the first week in Dec. to help mitigate the snow factor.
Get a 2011 venue now.
Less money on the kids stuff, but maybe some kids games and activities. The scavanger hunt with outside items, cacher quizz info etc. was always good. Jen BBD had a nice ornament making thing once.
How about a short karoke time? That would be painful to listen to but it would be fun. We do have some characters in our group. The very first party had a carol singalong with a unique cachers twists to it. Luv Wahoo's "Santa Baby" was especially notable.

Re: Things I learned from the 2010 Shindig
Ammo Cans twice a year is probably a good thing.
Moving to the 1st week of December would reduce the probability of snow but it is no guarantee.
How many groups signed the logs at the temporary caches? Having then "in the vicinity" of permanent caches is good but still no guarantee they will be hunted. Last year I got quite a few comments that people liked the temps and were sorry they weren't permanent.

Two people signed the farther temps, and only a few more the ones around the building. Four of the 8 temps could be permanent if you could get permission.

Re: Things I learned from the 2010 Shindig
That is about the same as last year except the had a 1.5 mile round trip walk last year to the furthest one out.
I think permanent have a better chance of being hunted especially with the threat of snow in December.

Re: Things I learned from the 2010 Shindig
We *really* wanted to attend this year, but the weather was too bad in Columbus for us to drive up to the event.
