State Nature Preserves-ODNR
Thought it might be useful to share the reply we received from the Ryan Schroeder, on an inquiry we made about placing a cache in Goll Woods:
Subject: RE: DNAP - Comments from users
Mike and Sheryl,
Thank you for your interest in Goll Woods. Unfortunately, our policy is
to not allow traditional geocaches in state nature preserves. However,
if you are so inclined Earthcaches are welcomed on state nature
preserves. If you would like to place a Fulton County geocache you could
contact the manager (jamesL.obrien@dnr.state.oh.us) of Harrison Lake
State Park for permission. Feel free to email or call (419-445-1775) if
you have any further questions.

I got a similar "form letter" response from him a couple years ago regarding putting one in the nature preserve just east of the airport.

These rules/regulations need to be respected. Sometimes they may seem out dated or too strict but rules and guidelines are there for a reason. If they are broken too many times a total ban could be enacted and enforced.

I read the original comment and the response as information. Information that we all need to know what is allowed and how to conform to the requirements.

Re: State Nature Preserves-ODNR
Not saying anyone is breaking the rules.
Sometimes we think the rules are a little strict and we hear people complaining about Keystone not allowing a cache to be published or a park not allowing a cache to be placed. If we follow the rules, caching will remain fun for all.
On a side note, if you think some of GroundSpeak's rules are strange, I have a stack of football rules books at home. You won't believe some of the obscere rules that are in there.

Talking about Goll Woods, that was the woods that I briefly got lost in when I first got started geocaching back in 03'.

Yup, just too bad we can't put a cache in it.
We were wondering if you could start a mystery or multi based on something like a sign in a Preserve if the final is off-property.
Would you still need to get permission, as it is a public location?

Re: State Nature Preserves-ODNR
It sure wouldn't hurt to clear the idea with ODNR. Especially since the caching in Goll Woods is opened
